Zafer Bayram (Victory Day) 30 August - Bank Holiday

Another Holiday in the offing, this one is just a one day holiday and public buildings/offices will be closed, this includes the post office and banks.

This day is to celebrate Turkish victories in 1922,  over the Greek invasion of Turkish lands in a battle (Dumlupınar) that lasted from 26th to 30th August with Turkish troops led by Kemal Ataturk winning the day(s) and the battle and eventually led to Turkey becoming a Republic in 1923.

On this day wreaths are placed on war memorials, plus of course Ataturk’s mausoleum, there may be military marches and the Turkish flag will be displayed just about everywhere.
